Shoppers in the UK can now get their hands on OPIHR Black Lemon – here’s what to team the citrus and spice-led gin with

Whether you’re jetting away this autumn or putting international travel plans on hold until 2022, you can still enjoy the taste of far-off lands, thanks to OPIHR Spiced Gin’s new Black Lemon expression, now available in Tesco, with Sainsbury’s following suit in October.

Consumers will also get an opportunity to taste OPHIR Black Lemon from the 17 – 18th September at Gousto’s Flavourlust, a spectacular two day pop-up that will give Brits the chance to sample a range of the recipe box’s limited edition street food range and OPHIR cocktails.

With its intriguing, exotic flavour making it the perfect accompaniment to warmer dishes and autumnal get-togethers, OPIHR Black Lemon draws from some of the rich flavours associated with Arabia, located along the Ancient Spice Route. The gin is inspired by the Iranian penchant for black lemons – also known as ‘loomi’ – which are frequently used in Persian cooking and add an earthy, tangy flavour.

The sun-drying process that black lemons (actually small limes!) go through, means that they avoid the bitter aftertaste associated with other mainstream citrus, and also gives them their unique black colour and dusty texture.

Whilst black lemon sits front and centre in the flavour profile, the London Dry gin also boasts an eclectic mix of Timut peppers and a signature juniper core, creating the perfect balance of citrus and spice.

Tesco shoppers will be the first to be able to get their hands on the gin, and then it will be available in Sainsbury’s from October 2021.

Robert Milton, Global Brand Director at OPIHR Gin, said: “It’s a real pleasure to be able to bring this truly unique gin to UK customers.  It’s brilliant to pair with mezze-style and Middle Eastern dishes, and also shines with meals like hearty stews and rich chutneys. We’re looking forward to seeing our fans get creative with it.”
