Thomas Dakin, a gin inspired by Manchester, has become the 600th gin to join one of the UK’s most impressive collections.
The Old Bell Inn, based in Saddleworth, is an eighteenth-century village pub, was awarded the Guinness World Record title for the most amount of gins commercially available when it reached 430 gins. Now boasting 600, The Old Bell Inn has added Thomas Dakin to the family and the Manchester based gin is more than at home in the renowned gin emporium.
The newly launched small batch gin was introduced to the world earlier this year and has proved to be a big hit in local pubs and bars. Distilled by G&J Distillers, this classic juniper-rich gin was inspired by and takes the name of the man who created the world’s first quality English gin and founded the world’s oldest gin distillers in 1761.
This new gin, named in honour of Thomas Dakin, the young gin innovator, has been created by Master Distiller Joanne Moore and is distilled in a baby pot still, using a secret recipe of eleven botanicals including juniper, orange peel and English coriander, with the unique addition of red cole*, a root botanical used in the 18th Century and known today as horseradish.
With Manchester at the heart of this gin, The Old Bell Inn couldn’t be a more perfect match. Charmingly local and wonderfully friendly, the 18th century building is submerged in English history and has been transformed to reflect this traditional warmth combined with contemporary vibes.
